Professionals are not the only ones entitled to compete for mastery in interpreting Chopin’s compositions. Since 2009, the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Amateurs has been organised every three years. Organisers and critics are unanimous in their opinion that the participants are all highly skilled pianists, the term “amateur” merely denoting that music is not their professional career and source of income.
